Brunello di Montalcino - Tenuta Luce
Brunello di Montalcino by Tenuta Luce
Of the 88 hectares of vineyards owned by Luce della Vite, 11 are registered in the Albo del Brunello di Montalcino. This is where the Sangiovese for Luce Brunello is born. This wine is our tribute to this excellent wine born in Montalcino in the second half of the 19th Century. It was the first wine in Italy to achieve, in 1980, the Denominazione d’Origine Controllata e Garantita. Today it’s one of the emblems of fine wines made in Italy. Luce Brunello di Montalcino thus continues a journey of the highest quality inspired by this unique territory and the great wines that are born here.

The origin
When Vittorio Frescobaldi – in the early Nineties – met Robert Mondavi, he gave life to a new chapter in the history of great Tuscan wines. From that meeting, 25 years ago, Luce was born, a wine inspired by the desire to make a dream come true: creating in Montalcino, a region with a special vocation for wine, a product that would go beyond the borders of tradition, but without denying it, treasuring the experiences of two historic wine families.
This ambitious project was later named Luce della Vite [Link interno]. A name that evoked the light of Montalcino, the light of the sun that is a source of life and nourishment, and marks the passage of the seasons, giving rhythm to each agricultural activity.Over the years, Tenuta Luce honoured this vision and more exclusive wines joined Luce. Wines capable of going beyond the borders of their region, to find unanimous and international acclaim.
Earth, beauty, people.
The story of Tenuta Luce
In 2005, the baton passed to Lamberto Frescobaldi, son of Vittorio. Today he’s at the helm of Tenuta Luce, directing its production, from the vineyard to the creation of each year’s blends. A work based on respecting the earth and the people and leads to transforming the fruits of the vine into excellent wines, that represent the beauty of the land where they are born.

With the latest acquisition, in 2016, Tenuta Luce equipped itself with a new Winery, an underground structure conceived so that it would blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape and nature, representing the harmony that is typical of our wines, and with Collezione Luce which like an ancient library preserves and tells the history of Tenuta Luce’s wines. Here, as in the vineyards, the values of Tenuta Luce guide each choice we make. And while in the vineyards there’s the beauty of nature, here there’s beauty built by man to inspire us to work better and better.
The radiating Sun, the emblem of Luce
After a careful iconographic study, we decided to represent Luce with a radiating Sun with twelve flames, a golden Sun with a twofold meaning: a source of life and nourishment, recalling the roots of our cultural tradition.Over the centuries, especially in Tuscany, the emblem of the Sun has had a prominent role both in the lay and the religious iconography.
The element inspiring Luce’s brand is the Sun on the altar of Santo Spirito in Florence, a basilica built on land donated by the Frescobaldi family. The altar, a masterpiece produced by ducal artisans between 1599 and 1607, is decorated with marble intarsia, enhancing the colours of lapis lazuli, onyx and different marbles.
The recurrent cycles of human history, the infinite alternation of generations, of existences.A perpetual rhythm, under the Sun that each day rises and shines brightly in the sky, or peeks between the clouds, and each day falls behind our gentle hills covered in vines.
