The fame of Cheleiros goes back to the Neolithic period, passing through the Romans and Moors, but it is in the 1950s that the stories and memories of wine began to characterize the village. The Manzwine project promises to transport you to a time when this village was renowned for the quality of its vineyards and orchards, fruit of good land, plantation on slopes and terraces and a unique micro climate, demarcating the border between maritime influence and the mild protection of the Cheleiros stream. We present the blend of the first wine made exclusively with the almost extinct Uva Jampal. Elegant, with good acidity in the mouth; the new barrel gives it an added complexity. THE STORY

André Manz is, more than owner or administrator, the creator of ManzWine. A Brazilian of Hungarian origin, who traveled to our country in the 1980s, to open up the world of group classes to us. From his pioneering spirit and infinite creativity, together with a stroke of fate, a project was born that was almost another. Included in a plot of land, which I had purchased for the project that never left the paper, was a forgotten vineyard. It was from this vineyard that the first wine adventures were born, the same that kept the great reason for the birth of the ManzWine project. They were the last strains of an indigenous variety, almost extinct. This is where the Dona Fátima wine is born and together with ManzWine.



CASA DAS BARRICAS

The quality of delivery is an essential condition in everything André does, and the wine business couldn't be different. He never worried about quantities, as long as quality was guaranteed. This ideology is recorded in all parts of the project.



CENTENARY VILLAGE

Cheleiros, a medieval village located a few kilometers from Lisbon, has in its history strong ties to the production of grapes and wine. Centuries of tradition, which over time has been lost. In part, due to the peculiar characteristics of their land, investments in cooperatives and devaluations of their traditions, but mainly due to the abandonment of agricultural activities due to development. It has a rich history with references as old as the Neolithic, heritages so present in the Roman occupation, wines as good as those of ManzWine.



THE MISSION
RECOVERY AND REVITALIZATION

The recovery and revitalization of the region's history, traditions and customs was, and remains, the cornerstone of our project. From the discovery of the rare Jampal grape variety and its recovery, to the present day, it has been a long way. The recovery of the old mill and the primary school are also examples of this journey.



INNOVATE

Victim of its success, the business began to gain a dimension greater than the physical space we had. As they say, the “need sharpens the ingenuity” and the new cellar is born. A modern space that maintains the traditional lines of the region. This place, where magic happens, is part of our wine tourism experiences.



NOTES OF THE PAST

Since the beginning of the project, even when it was still just a dream, we were always aware that tradition and history would be the basis of everything. During the restoration works, we found artifacts that alone were telling the story of those spaces. From Neolithic evidence to the tools of the last century, passing through the "Mystery of the Mill". We created a place where the past meets ManzWine and history recounts. Come visit us!



KNOWLEDGE SHARING

Where the Cheleiros primary school was once, today there is Casa das Barricas. This is where the oak barrels are located, where ManzWine wines age. Once again, recovery and revitalization are present. We kept the traditional characteristic of the region, but giving it a new function. The old playground gave way to a lounge, creating the perfect place to taste our wines.

Manzwine's values are quality, recovery and revitalization. The whole history of past years, which won us over and made us look at this place in a special way, led us to project on wines everything we already did, and everything we learned. Our concept thus comes close to a wine boutique, a premium quality product, delicate, careful, rich in aromas and velvety in flavor. Today we have 14 distinct labels, with a modern image, with the due marks of the history that influences us. Today Manzwine is a growing national brand in Portugal. At the international level, we are an example of what is best done here, exporting much of our production to more than 30 countries.
